A total of fourteen sprinters have been included in nominations for Saturday’s 2015 Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick; highlighted by the pending appearance of some of the Spring Carnival’s most exciting short-course specialists.
Joe Pride has been understandably thrilled with the results posted by Ball Of Muscle through his short but impressive racing career, and has included the gelding in 2015 Concorde Stakes nominations.
Yet to finish outside the first three through 13 competitive starts, Ball Of Muscle has been a typically high performer for Pride this year; winning the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) to conclude a strong summer preparation before returning on April 11th for a close second in the 3aw Community Raceday Handicap (1000m).
Continuing to impress when second to subsequent two-time Group 1 winner Srikandi in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m), the son of Dubawi has not been seen at the races since charging home to win the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m) on May 30th.
Pride is set to launch a two-pronged attack on the 2015 Concorde Stakes after also including Craftiness in nominations.
Finishing outside the first three only once in nine starts, Craftiness was kept to a short preparation through the recent Autumn Carnival; winning the Burling’s Last Stand (1050m) and running second in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) most notably in three starts.
Shiraz is yet to taste anything but success through three starts this time, and trainer Tony McEvoy is confident a step back to 1000m will hinder the six-year-olds chances for success in the Concorde Stakes.
Claiming nine wins and two minors through fourteen career starts, the Zariz gelding returned this time for success in the TAB.com.au BM95 (1100m); progressing to another comfortable win in the Primo Smallgoods BM90 (1200m) before poking clear to take out the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) on August 8th.
Heart Testa returned for a credible fourth in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) a fortnight ago and should have taken priceless condition from the run leading into the Concorde Stakes.
Having beat a talented field to the line in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) on February 14th, the Testa Rossa gelding was unlucky to be blocked for a run late when fifth in the Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m), but had clearly had enough by the time he placed eleventh in the Hall Mark Stakes.
The 2015 Concorde Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
