11 runners have been confirmed to take their place in this weekend’s Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick, offering punters exceptional value from a betting point of view and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.
Having produced several notable results over the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, including a strong run for second in the most recent edition of the Concorde Stakes first-up, Godolphin runner Sessions is currently favourite for success this weekend at a quote of $4.20, ahead of Atmospherical ($4.20), Target In Sight ($6) and clear market mover Didntcostalot ($7.40).
Will Sessions justify favouritism and win the 2014 Concorde Stakes, or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Yet to receive much more than a sprinkling of bets for success in the 2014 Concorde Stakes, Sessions continues to offer punters great value for success, particularly having drawn the ideal barrier 4. Securing a commendable total of five wins and four minor places from just 15 competitive starts so far, the Lonhro entire contested just four black type races over autumn, and while unable to hit peak condition, still managed some strong results; namely fourth in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) on March 29th. Confirmed to be partnered by newly-crowned Sydney Premiership jockey James McDonald, all signs seem to point towards a first-up win for sessions.
Rain Affair ($7.50)
An impressive performer at the highest level of Australian racing through 2013, Joe Pride-trained Rain Affair arguably offers punters the best value for success in betting markets for the 2014 Concorde Stakes at current $7.50 odds to win, or $2.55 to run a place. Finishing second in both the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) as well as winning the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) most notably in 2013, the Commands gelding was unable to hit full potential over just three autumn starts, but has reportedly worked well in the lead-up to his racing return. Allocated the ideal barrier 2, Pride is confident Blake Shinn will get the best from his runner in the 2014 Concorde Stakes.
The second Godolphin runner confirmed to line up for the Concorde Stakes, Safeguard was a strong and consistent performer of the 2014 winter and is well and truly worth considering in 2014 Concorde Stakes betting markets at current odds. Failing to beat a single runner home during the running of the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) on April 19th, the Exceed And Excel entire responded well in finishing second in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) before securing commendable results in both the Group 3 Fred Best Classsic (1350m) and Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1400m); finishing just outside the places in each. Having won a strong Warwick Farm barrier trial last week, trainer John O’Shea is confident of a competitive first-up performance this time in for Safeguard.
