Reward For Effort Wins 2010 Concorde Stakes Ahead Of Winter King

August 29th, 2010

Reward For Effort has claimed victory in the $125,000 Group Three Concorde Stakes (1100m) after defeating a top quality field at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse yesterday.

The four-year-old went into the jump as the favourite at, proving to punters sometimes it pays well to stick with the odds.

Trained by Peter Moody, Reward For Effort returned to the track just last month with a win in the Sir John Monash Stakes after suffering a serious injury. The 2010 Concorde Stakes win cemented a return to form, as the Blue Diamond Stakes winner responded beautifully to his rider Nash Rawiller.

The pair took the lead early on with an initial threat from Winter King in barrier two. Reward For Effort ran gallantly holding off a late surge from the David Payne-trained runner to win by two lengths.

Winter King finished second with Trusting back in third. John Thompson was pleased with his third-placed runner which managed to pull through a battle with the Gai Waterhouse-trained Montana Flyer.

One pre race favourite Patronyme disappointed punters at, after finishing an unimpressive eighth. Jockey Corey Brown had expected more from the More Than Ready mare, which jumped from barrier seven.

Also taking place at the Rosehill Racecourse was the headlining $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m), which resulted in Toorak Toff claiming the prolific win.

Reward For Effort is looking likely to jump in the $500,000 Group One Manikato Stakes (1200m) on September 24, so stay up to date on the best odds by signing up with!
